Principal's Corner

School is closed

Good evening Riverdale HS Community,

In light of the possibility of adverse weather conditions into Monday morning, this communication is to notify you of what remote learning will look like for Riverdale High School scholars if school buildings and offices are closed, due to inclement weather. The learning will consist of an asynchronous learning model. Note: The remote learning model assumes staff and students will have access to power and wifi services.

• What does ASYNCHRONOUS remote learning mean: Students and staff members will work from home in a remote environment. Students will have lesson activities and assignments posted in Canvas that they are to work on independently during the day, but they may log in to a Zoom link provided by their teachers at a specific time block to receive assistance.

o Remote learning activities/assignments will be posted by 8:30 a.m. on the remote learning day in Canvas.

o All teachers will post a Zoom link in Canvas where students may log in for 30 minutes to get assistance or ask questions pertaining to the assignment.

o Canvas is accessible through the CCPS Student Portal using Chromebooks, phones, iPads, etc.

o Students are to work on the lesson activities and assignments independently, but may log in to the Zoom link for that class period to get assistance from the teacher(s).

o Due dates and submission information will be provided in the Canvas posting.

o There is no live teaching occurring, except if students are getting assistance on the assignment and have asked the teacher for assistance during the 30-minute time period for their class.

o If students encounter power or wifi issues due to the inclement weather, teachers will work with them individually regarding assignment completion.

o Logging in for students is not mandatory.

Block I 9:00-9:30 AM

Block II 9:45-10:15 AM

Block III 10:30-11:00 AM

Block IV 11:150-11:45 AM

• What if I need someone else at my child’s school during remote learning? All faculty and staff will be working remotely as well, available through e-mail, during our normal 8:15-3:15 hours. Staff email addresses may be found on the school’s website.

• What about extra-curricular events and activities? All school-related events and activities will be postponed until a future date or are canceled (including no athletic practices or competitions).

With appreciation and Raider PRIDE,

Mrs. Wilson, Principal
